5 Weeks

First family photo

I can't believe it has been 5 weeks since Nick was born. He starts his 5th week of life at 9 lbs. Nick now comes to work with me every day so he does not have to stay home alone. He is enjoying the large fields at work and the weather has really cooperated this week, giving him a lot of outdoor time- which he loves. We will be having several guests this week, including children, so Nick can get some socialization with strangers in the home. Time is really flying and in a few short weeks- he will be heading to a new home.

Week 4

This has been a week of firsts for Nick. We had our first guests over for a puppy visit, Nick had his first real meal, and Nick had his first real marrow bone. Nick is topping out the scales at 6#10oz. I decided to spare his poor mom from feeding him by putting him on regular food a little early. Usually I wait until they are between 4 and 5 weeks old to switch to real food but Nick is so large, I gave him a couple days of goat's milk and today he received a meal of softened, mashed kibble and goat's milk. Usually it is a great day of pictures when puppy eats his first meal but Nick put his head in the bowl and ate like he has been doing it for weeks. No fun pictures. He is very playful and is all over the other dogs, wrestling and pouncing. He loves to chew on bones and toys and is even chasing balls. He is a very fun pup and the whole pack is really enjoying him.

Week 3

Nick has had a very busy week. I moved a playpen into the living room so he can spend time out with the rest of the pack. When I am at work, he is down in the whelping box with mom but he is now in the middle of fun when I am home. I try to leave one side of the playpen folded down so the other dogs can play with him and Katsuk can feed him but he escapes more often than not and I find him shooting around the living room, peeing and chewing on everything. Faethe is his favorite dog- he loves to chew on her long curly hair and she is very gentle with him. He had his first trauma this week by walking out into the kitchen which has a floor covered in dreaded linolium. He yowled for a couple minutes until he realized no one was coming to rescue him and then he scooted off the floor on his own. When he starts solid food next week, I will feed him in the kitchen to help him get used to the floor. He has passed the 5 lb. mark and looks so much more mature than my past litters at this age- there is certainly a benefit to getting all the food and attention! This week will bring our first puppy guests as a couple families will visit Nick to help socialize him with children and strangers. Below are some pictures taken over this last week.

Week 2

All this playing tires a pup out!

Nick had his first car ride and vet visit this week. His checkup went great, he has a healthy heart, lungs, and appetite. The vet was quite impressed with his girth. He is 3#10oz on his 2 week birthday. He is playing often with his 'littermates' who are very tolerant of his chewing and tail pulling ( of course they are, they're stuffed!) He has turned an eye towards escape and is trying to climb out of his whelping box so this week an xpen will be put up around the box. I bought a playpen for him to enjoy time around the big dogs and human living areas while still keeping him protected as he is so curious and playful. He is developing a beautiful head and already has a thick, beautiful coat.
